Casting Call!!

As I'm sure most in the family have heard by now, our oldest daughter broke her wrist last Friday afternoon. It was the first day of Spring Break for the kids and our family (along with another) went to a somewhat local Korean mountain park. The dads and older kids found a zipline set-up.

After several successful runs down the zipline, our adventurer didn't land quite right off her last take down the zipline. She wound up with an impact fracture right around the growth plate area of her left wrist.

The Ortho doc confirmed it to be several Salter-Harris 2 fractures that involve the distal radius and scaphoid bones. Very late into Friday night, the wonderful Ortho tech did a half cast. Tuesday afternoon our adventurer got her girly, pink arm cast.

This was taken, by me, moments before the fall.
(I was snapping pics while holding the dog's leash and watching w/ our youngest.)

At the ER into late, late Friday night.

The "half-cast" done by the Ortho Tech at the ER.

Took the half-cast off and preparing to make the arm cast.

She got some new shoes too. :)

In the Cast Room, waiting for the Ortho Doc to look at her arm again.

The wrist is still a bit swollen but she's okay for the full cast.
Here we go!

An appointment to x-ray (through the cast) is scheduled for next Wednesday. The doctor says she'll be in the arm cast for 3-4 weeks. If all heals as it should then the cast will be shortened to end below the elbow for the remaining 2 weeks or so.
