Re-defining...

J made it to VA safely. I've only been able to chat with him for a few minutes here and there. Things there he said have been going alright and that's it's pretty quiet there. Later today is the wake for his grandfather, and tomorrow morning is the funeral.

I'm tired but not enough to fall asleep. So I'm putting the time to good use. I've been tackling one room or section of a larger room, at a time. I'm tired of all the clutter that makes things feel and look chaotic. Our daily routine can be chaotic enough. I don't feel our home needs to reflect that though. So I've been selling a lot of things on eBay, consigning at the base thrift shop, donating for charity, etc. With the items that remain, I've been re-organizing and given quite a few things a re-defined home.

It's working out quite well. It feels great too. I can now walk into these newly designed areas and feel comfortable in them. I can easily access everything. Nothing is cluttered. It's really, very nice. The kids are getting a kick out of the recent changes I've made too! They love when I ask for their opinion on where something should go.

I started in the kitchen, weeks ago. With the pantry and cabinets. Over the weekend, I re-did the entry way, baker's rack and counters. Today's focus was on the laundry room. Wow! That was quite a project. It was nice to take a break and hang out with the kids this afternoon/evening. Now that it's late, quiet and they are all asleep - I'll finish the laundry room tonight. I'll be working on the dining table tomorrow. It looks like it needs some TLC. A good cleaning should cheer it up. I also purchased some new dressings for it. I'll work on designing a centerpiece with some flat marbles and stones. Give it sort of an earthy feel, I guess.

Then it's off to work on the living room and my work space - which need some much needed HELP!

Also in this need to re-organize, re-define - I find that I need to update myself a little as well. The wardrobe aspect is fine. I could do with taking some time to do a manicure & pedicure. Though since I most likely broke one of my toes or near it toe (on my right foot), I've held off on that. I would like to get a new hairstyle though. Something shorter than what I have. Something light, cute, and classy. I have decided on one style, so I'll go to the salon within the next couple of days.

It'll be nice to have a new *do* (and I have a new summer dress) to wear when J comes home next week to a newly designed (and much better organized) home.

Wow! It's late here. I feel the tiredness really creeping in, now that I've been sitting down and typing. ;) I will go for now, finish up the laundry room and hit the hay.
